"In our modern era, where students and families are constantly being fed information, told to keep their schedules full, and that they must buy the newest things, the act of slowing down is countercultural and an act of resistance. For students to retain information, they must be able to engage with the content meaningfully and at their own pace. Unfortunately, many school systems have created an opposite atmosphere, where students are rushed through units to cover the necessary information before state testing begins. While a relatively simple practice to learn, the Sit Spot offers students a powerful entry point towards seeing themselves as environmental stewards and scientists. It also provides educators a simple way to resist the high-paced environment of capitalism."
